IX. Taking Efficient Measures
to Enhance the Customs Protection of Intellectual Property
In 2004, Chengdu Customs attached great importance
to Customs protection of intellectual property, enhanced information
exchanges with the main export ports including Shanghai, Shenzhen,
Ningbo, Huangpu and those customs where infringement cases frequently
occur, grasped related information that brands from Sichuan were infringed
and exported in other provinces and some export infringement cases
of Sichuan enterprises in coastal ports, make risk analysis, and also
had the declaration at Chengdu Customs under necessary surveillance.

Enhancing active protection and carry out risk analysis and surveillance.
Chengdu Customs make full use of the system of going through customs,
strengthened up information collection, and analyzed their risks to
trademarks and commodities whose rights were easy to be infringed,
and in accordance with information feedback from customs across the
country in the course of investigating and handling intellectual property
cases and combining import and export data of Chengdu Customs, investigated
into and solved cases through surveillance,
In July 2004, Chengdu Customs tracked down a case
of smuggling pirate CDs by Korean personnel, took over 156
boxes of pirate CDs, and realized a ˇ°Zeroˇ± breakthrough of protecting
intellectual property cases via luggage channels. In August, it took
protection measures for the chips of a certain international famous
brand which was suspected to be infringed, and such protection actions
had been highly praised by its Chinese headquarter; in October, it
enforced surveillance for a patent product of a certain enterprise
related to export infringement, and temporarily detained the products.
